Clive, was interviewed by Paul Bloomfield, Global Communications and Public Relations for Prem Rawat, Global Peace Ambassador.
As Chair of Tutu Foundation UK, Clive spoke about the work they continue to do in South Africa to bring knowledge and wisdom to communities by using the concept of “Ubuntu”. This powerful practice had been formed by communities who sought peaceful reconciliation rather than seeking a path of violence and revenge following the overthrow of the apartheid.
During the interview, Paul mentioned that the ‘Ubuntu Round Tables conducted by Archbishop Tutu and ‘TPRF’s Peace Education Program’ by Prem Rawat complement each other well. As Paul states, what Prem Rawat does is really complementary to Archbishop Tutu's efforts with the “Ubuntu Round Tables’. TPRF’s Peace Education Program could be “the oil” to loosen up people so that the conversations with the “Ubuntu Round Tables” could be even more impactful. And that’s what we found in some of the prison activities that we’ve done, like in India”.
A core objective of both organisations is to bring people together by focusing more on their similarities rather than differences. As Desmond Tutu says about Ubuntu “I am because you are and we are all interdependent.” We’ve all grown up to believe we are independent (of each other). But we are not. Clive mentions that “Desmond’s philosophy focuses on the “I” and “thou” which emphasises the connection between two people.”
