As part of an effort to attract visitors back to the West End, some of London’s biggest theatre shows will be offered at a discount in the new year. Tickets for almost 60 theatre productions will be available for between £10 and £50 in January and February.
The New West End Company, which represents brands and businesses in London stated this week that attendance to theatres was not increasing, and that ticket sales in general are 30% lower than pre-covid levels. Last week, some of England’s biggest theatres implemented their own mandatory face mask rules as they continue to try and respond to the threat of the new Omicron Covid variant; which has dented hopes of the entertainment industry recovering any time soon. The Society of London Theatre said last week that “As Christmas approaches, it is vital that we ensure our theatres continue to be safe environments to visit and work in.”
This initiative also aims to boost West End’s retail and hospitality business that have faced difficulties during the pandemic, although, from a Londoner’s perspective, I think Central London has been quite packed these last few weeks.
