We salute journalist and broadcaster Dame Jenni Murray for finding the bravery to strip off on TV to raise awareness of the importance of checking for signs of breast cancer.
The 70-year-old former Woman’s Hour presenter and regular speaker for Clive Conway Productions will will be among those appearing on ITV’s The Real Full Monty on Ice.
Jenni herself survived breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy in 2007. The importance of checking for tell-tale lumps and changes in breast tissue was a subject she often discussed on Woman’s Hour.
She told Radio Times recently: "You have to be gung ho about these things. I've had two children. I've had my hips replaced. I've had a mastectomy. I've had stomach surgery. I've had an operation on my left humerus…My body has been exposed and dealt with on numerous occasions, and I can't see the point of being shy about it. It's a couple of seconds of taking your bra off. What's the problem?”
The Real Full Monty on Ice launches on ITV on 14th December and finds Jenni appearing alongside This Morning’s Dr Zoe, Love Island’s Shaunghna Phillips and actresses Linda Lusardi and Hayley Tamaddon.
The show is particularly timely as it is estimated that almost a million women across the UK have missed breast screening this year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
It will address male cancers too with Love Island's Chris Hughes, rugby’s Gareth Thomas and jockey Bob Champion among those taking part.
