For the first time, the full extent of the Duke of Windsor’s treachery during World War II will be revealed, not just sympathising with the enemy, but actively collaborating.

The documentary will explore how Edward VIII, who had abdicated in 1936 to marry American socialite Wallis Simpson, helped Nazis invade France in 1940 by revealing defensive weak spots to known collaborators. Whilst living in France, the former king had written multiple reports on the low moral and poor leadership of the French First Army. British officials had ignored the reports written by Edward,  but later, captured German diplomatic cables identified that Edward had given the information to known Nazi informant, Charles Bedaux.

The documentary will also cover how Edward VIII encouraged Germany to bomb Britain into submission which was admitted by another captured diplomat who stated that Edward encouraged the ‘continued severe bombing’ which would ‘make England ready for peace’. Edward aimed to reinstate himself to the throne.

These allegations are detailed in Dr Andrew Lownie’s upcoming book ‘Traitor King’, which will be published in May.

The documentary will air on Channel 4 on Sunday 27th March at 8PM, and if you miss it, it will be available on demand a day later: https://www.channel4.com/categories/documentaries
