It’s been a glorious five years but Julian Lloyd Webber will be stepping down from his role as principal of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire next month.
The brilliant cellist and good friend of Clive Conway Productions took on the Birmingham role after a herniated disc weakened his bowing arm and he was forced to give up top end performance.
His time at the RBC has found him spearheading a number of groundbreaking achievements and making great headway in his passion for music education. It also saw the institution move to a new £57 million building and merge with the School of Acting.
He will continue to have links with both the Conservatoire and Birmingham City University and has been made an emeritus professor in recognition of his work.
Vice Chancellor of Birmingham City university Professor Philip Plowden said ‘The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire has thrived under Julian’s leadership. What has been achieved has been exceptional. We are a university with creative arts at our core and Professor Lloyd Webber has not only been passionate about achieving world-class quality in the Conservatoire, but also supporting and promoting its exceptional outreach work to ensure that musical education is available to everyone.”
