Meet the star of Strictly Come Dancing, Saturday Live (BBC Radio 4), and The Communards!
In this ever-popular evening, he discusses his attempts to live a hybrid life as the 59th Vicar of Finedon, hatching, matching, and dispatching among the gingerbread stone houses, neighbouring Weetabix factory and Primark Distribution Centre, alongside his alternative life as a broadcaster, writer, panel game show contestant, Strictly veteran, and (thanks to being voted Most Whimsical Vicar on the wireless) borderline national trinket.
From his ordination during the season of Petertide, through Advent and Christmas to Lent and Easter, he gives us a unique insight into his daily experience in the ministry, with all the joy, drama, difficulty, and humour which life, and indeed death, serves up in varying measures.
He is also the only vicar in Britain to have had a number-one hit single. He read Theology at King's College London, and after ordination worked as a curate in Lincolnshire and subsequently at St Paul's Church in Knightsbridge, London. He is the author of Lives of the Improbable Saints and two memoirs, the bestselling Fathomless Riches and Bringing in the Sheaves.
Along the way, he’ll connect the euphoria and mayhem of being Top of The Pops in the 80s when he was a key member of The Communards, to his present circumstances as Church of England priest, radio broadcaster, and television show panelist answering amongst many burning questions “How do you go from pop star to priest? And why?”
