How foolish of us to think that the annual flood of headlines in the run-up to Strictly Come Dancing might be a little challenged this year.
Of course not. It clearly takes more than a global pandemic to de-rail the Strictly publicity machine. Indeed with just a week to go before filming is due to begin we hear that the show is in ‘crisis’ after a former crew member tested positive for coronavirus.
Reports suggest that bosses ordered everyone off the set and called for a powerful deep-clean. But I suspect fans shouldn’t worry too much. The poor crew man or woman in question - a lighting person apparently - hadn’t been working on the show for several days at least and the professional dancers were not present. In fact they have been isolating in a special ‘bubble’ and weren’t due to start filming pre-recorded footage for several days.
In other words there may be a small delay but the show will almost certainly go on. Oh, and the really good news is that the lighting person in question has taken a second test which has proved inconclusive and, fingers-crossed, will be absolutely fine.
In the meanwhile just watch those headlines roll in as a list of celebrities including comedian Bill Bailey, actor Caroline Quentin, boxer Nicola Adams and, following in the well-trodden dance-steps of political heavyweights Ann Widdecombe and Ed Balls, former Labour Home Secretary Jacqui Smith.
