Congratulations to Ubuntu Round Table West project for being a finalist in this year’s National Crimebeat Awards.
The Ubuntu Round Table promotes dialogue between young people and the police. It is a joint initiative by the Tutu Foundation UK and Youth Futures in response to the knife crime epidemic and other challenges inflicted upon young people in London in recent years.
The project was inspired by those who had negative perceptions and experiences of and with police, those they should be able to turn to for safety. They realised that the change had to come from both sides and so initiated what is now an ongoing conversation between young people and police officers in boroughs across the city.
Ever since they were formed, the organisation has been facilitating skills training, communication between young people and the police, providing certificates and references to support for future employment and education, and much more.
